I would definitely second Run Lola Run for being very fast paced being well shot/directed/etc. I would also recommend Punch-Drunk Love, Black Dynamite (if you can enjoy Blacksplotation parody), stuff by Nolan is usually decent and pretty fast paced (although most people have seen his stuff), The Fugitive, and Schindler's List.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Just to clarify, the pace doesn't need to be extremely fast, just normal fast. Like the blockbusters of Jerry Bruckheimer, or Steven Spielberg; the focus is on the story, but the characters are well-enough acted/written to keep you interested.

Will watch:
Run Lola Run
Headhunters
Irreversible

Already seen:
Children of Men (very good)
Evil Dead 2 (found it quite slow)
Baader Meinhof Complex (first half was fast, but second half is slow-paced)
Black Dynamite (this was an excellent film, great pacing and acting)
Hobo with a Shotgun
The Fugitive (perfect pacing)

Will not see:
Crank movies (acting needs to be good enough that I care what happens; therefore Jason Statham is a non-starter)
Jeanne Dielman -- have heard this is brutally slow
His Girl Friday -- watched a bit of this and it seems the only thing in the film that's fast-paced is the speed of all the talking, loads of talking.

May revisit:
Boogie Nights
Good Fellas
Schindler's List
Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels
-they seemed slow and I fell asleep the first time trying to watch these the but maybe will give them another try since they are being recommended here as fast-paced movies.

I was serious about everything except Schindler's List, it's pretty slow. I love it, but its slow

good lord, the departed is one of your go-to examples for films with a slow pace? that entire movie is practically one musical montage

I am stunned that anyone could call either that or Evil Dead 2 anything close to a slow pace. Especially ED2.

Well Evil Dead 2 and the Departed aren't the slowest movies I've ever seen. But if I just named the slowest I've ever seen as examples (eg Babel, A Serious Man, Lost in Translation) then it wouldn't be a very useful threshold to narrow the selection of potential films because pretty much anything is faster than these.

The idea is that I'm looking for films whose plot advances faster than the Departed without being overly convoluted.
