I tried to give this a chance because I love Julia Louis-Dreyfus but it's just so in love with itself that it bugs me. It's like there's only 4 forms of comedy nowadays: the cram every joke in as little timeframe as possible like this and 30 Rock, the I'm a fat slut humor (Amy Schumer) or some version of being a whore that isn't clever or interesting, the Judd Apatow glorification of the beta male humor and the stuff that is actually funny like Curb and Workaholics. More of the latter please

The Veep Method has forever changed my approach to life - and my results can be yours, too! Since applying the Veep Method, I: 1) have been promoted two times, 2) successfully navigate a chaotic business environment, 3) employ surprising empathy towards our nation's sociopolitical milieu, 4) fell out of all social circles, which cuts back on that going out budget!, 5) picked up several neuroses and at least one addiction, and 6) can cobble swears from anything, you Colonel Sand-paper fuck stick.

Fantastic cast of both actors and characters. Even though a lot of the humour comes from incredibly creative insults and general profanity the characters all feel distinct and offer their own stylings as well. I think Kent Davison might weirdly be my favorite character but there's no weak link here. Plenty of moments where strong dramatic acting shines as well.

Top tier, fucking hilariously written/acted comedy. I love this show and rewatch episodes of it all the time. Julia Louis-Dreyfus is my savior.

This show was absolutely hilarious. I would binge this late at night while other family members were sleeping and I would keep waking them up with my loud belly laughs. The characters are just so well written and performed, and the humor fantastic.

Veep takes a season or two to finally find its footing. Until that point, everything comes off as a bit too cruel. Soon, though, the cast gets more shades, the plot becomes less mired in strict political protocol, and suddenly the cruelty of the writing begins to pop like firecrackers. By the end, the show is so adept at what it’s doing that it’s hysterical, and it may have the best final joke of any series ever made.

I only watched ep 1, but found it mostly just depressingly real with no redeeming takeaways or new lessons to learn, and it didn’t bend reality enough to really be surprising or “fun”, imo. Worked in state level politics for years, and this summarizes even that scene quite well. The performances were good & maybe it gets better, but there are just too many movies, books & shows and not enough time. If you loyally followed 30 Rock, CYE, P&R or the Office, you’ll likely be into this, too?

By avoiding partisan politics the show is able to have twists that would not have been possible otherwise. But doing so makes the show far less relevant in its satire. The strong charismatic actors (especially Louis-Dreyfus) keep you from hating the characters too much.

(1 - 75; 2 - 86; 3 - 91; 4 - 94; 5 - 96; 6 - 98; 7 - 97) It struggles to find its footing at first, but by the end of the first season Veep is firing on most of its cylinders and shows its potential to get to even higher quality. I love laughing at the second most incompetent example of government work I've ever seen (sadly, the only thing that beats it is Trump administration non-fiction), and it's got such sharp writing that I can't help but watch more episodes than I intended.

Pretty good. Meanders too much and focuses too much on unlikeable and unfunny side characters. But the protagonist is a hilarious, mean buffoon, and it's worth slogging through the rest to experience her life.

Absolutely loved this show when Iannucci was in charge. Took a bit of a downturn when he left, Seasons 5-6 relied too much on lazy outrageous writing. The last season was better and kinda rediscovered its touch. Overall, one of the best comedies lately but could have been absolutely amazing if it ended at the right time.

Veep might not be as funny as The Thick of It, but Iannucci makes the American version its own thing. Whereas the writing and Capaldi were the stars of the Thick of It, Veep's quality is much more determined by its ensemble cast, who are truly great.

Took me back by how horrible the characters were, even almost bailing out of the pilot. But, once I accepted how cruel and offensive the show was - it's hilarious, a mix of IASIP and politics.

Solid laughs throughout. Everyone is awful in their own way so you don't really feel bad for any of the terrible shit going on. Dreyfus is amazing as this spoiled clueless moron with a foul mouth and a mean streak but the supporting cast is pretty amazing throughout.

First few seasons are deliciously cynical and hilarious. It's a shame that sitcoms have such a tendency to linger far longer than they should. Just as with this one, the jokes get especially formulaic and the characters get way too calcified.

Possibly the funniest show to grace American television ever. Julia Louis-Dreyfus is comic genius, at the service of terrific writing and a fantastic supporting ensemble cast.

Gotta be honest; don't really get it. Into the Loop was one of my favorite comedies of the last ten years so I don't think I carry any anti-Iannucci bias or anything. Love Julia Louis-Dreyfus too, and she occasionally drops a killer one-liner that made me laugh. But I just find the show so very, very, very dry. Huge dead spots. Doesn't do it for me.
