Watching this for the first time Post-Covid lockdown is such a strange and bleak treat. Play "Tick The Conspiracy" that kinda happened episode by episode (and don't be tempted by the American remake). Just Fantastic!

It's fine and good-looking for sure. Occasionally, I felt the story lagging behind, trying to catch up with itself. Some characters are great and refreshing, others just annoying.

Really stylish, good cinematography. Acting by side characters really good. Main story is kind of silly, the main character is a bit of a clinché, sidekicks fall in love for each other... But apart from the story, it was really well done! Pretty gruesome at times. They don't show gore, but it's like they did (a guy approaching someone he plans on torturing with a spoon, telling him he's going to take his eye out - which he does).

Sometimes brilliant, sometimes not so much, with a wonderful musical score that sets the off-kilter tone for the entire series. I much preferred the second season to the first.

here's the deal: it's a great show plot and character wise. not to mention the cinematography! however, the politics are highly troubling. it's hard to describe without spoilers, but it seems to play on some really harmful liberal myths about the nature of oppression.

Frighteningly realistic. The probability of this possibility is so high, that it is difficult to watch this series as fiction. The quirkiness of the acting and the music deserves a special mention.

Brilliant in morsels but deeply flawed as a whole. You have certain characters, certain set-pieces and scenes that are so exquisitely fleshed out that they are destined to be iconic. But as soon as you take a step back, none of the pieces fit--it's not nearly as smart as it purports to be. And it's all because the ligaments holding the series together either make no sense or are utterly effused in age-old cliches. An inspired if deeply frustrating effort.

I'm a sucker for that particularly British vein of high strangeness & all-powerful conspiracies (The Invisibles, The Prisoner, most of Alan Moore's output etc.) and Utopia fits into that niche. Second season is a slight disappointment but only because the expectations raised by the first were astronomical, the pilot episode is one of the best there is. Fantastic cinematography and soundtrack, also highly relevant to watch in the age of COVID.

First season : Visually ambitious for a tv series. The colors pop, the wide shots play the thing as a series of still images in stretches. The exposition gets a little heavy at times and it relies heavily on convoluted twists. Could've been stretched to 13 episodes. Second season: Palpatine and Ygritte from GOT (for one episode)! The narrative intentions have either shifted towards conventional episodic convolution or have simply been revealed as so. Either way, highly disappointing.
