Takes a few liberties with the original story, changing some plot points and completely rewriting characters like Trelawney and Livesey, but apart from that it's a pretty good adaptation. It looks highly polished, particularly the bits out on the open sea, and retains the spirit of excitement and adventure that makes it such a classic story. Izzard is magnificent. Much more fun than the interminable Pirates of the Caribbean films.

The pacing is very odd, and the ending is a bit abrupt. But other than that, it passes a boring Sunday afternoon.

IT"S TOO LONG! Apart from that it's pretty decent production. I like the boy and Silver's relation. The beginning's made with guns blazing (literally), then the action slows down. The 1st part is mainly about pirates' wars and the 2nd one focuses on naval journey & how things can get complicated when we have a bunch of people with different interests. From the technical POV there are several moments when a camera speeds up (1st half) and one unfortunate moment when it zooms quite visibly(2nd half).

A high quality version of the classic story. Some who may already have favourite versions of the tale may find that this version doesn't quite do enough to win them over. However I found the whole thing massively enjoyable. The mixture of Hollywood names, and some of best performers reguarly on British TV make for a very watchable and eclectic cast. Izzard is undoubtedly the star of the show though, performing a pitch perfect version of Long John Silver. Recommended.
