Crosses the line into annoying a bit too often. Hard to ignore the terrible writing when the characters keep guessing culprits that don't make sense. Obviously we find out, in the very weak finale, that the writers just never wanted to comit to a narrative. Some well done suspense but all of it adds up to nothing in the end.

A fascinating true story is violently ruined by the incessant need to keep the momentum of twists going, no matter how random. Cannavale kept me around for 1.5 episode but then the hatchett came down. Everything in here is completely unrelatable and unlikely and is driven by a sort of randomness that could pose as camp, but fails bc it's tonally schizophrenic. Exposition is clunkily written in thru overlong monologues full of tropes. Serously, the monologues!! I couldn't cringe any harder!

I have reached the age ( Ok, it took me long enough! ) where I recognise a complete turkey when I see one and I chose to pull the plug on this after one episode. I love Naomi Watts, and I am sure she will be put through the wringer later on to show her acting chops, but the ridiculous neighbours, jump scares and terrible script did it for me. I will wait for the next mini series where "A married woman breaks a nail, with disasterous consequences" ... I am sure it will be as rivetting.

It started off strong, time was flying by with the first episodes. A little bit of intrigue, a little bit of suspense and a lit a bit of comedic relief. However, the last two episodes colossally brought the show down. Especially the finale. Yes, this is based on a true story, but you just shouldn't start shooting if you can't provide an ending. Even if in reality The Watcher is never caught/revealed, they should have made something up or not take up the project altogether.

SPOILERS: The fact it's based on true events is the only way I can condone the ending, but still, with an adaptation solely built around a whodunit set up, there NEEDS to be satisfying payoff. By the end, not only is it clear multiple people were involved, it's likely EVERY character played a part. Strong build up, weak falling action, and no resolution to speak of, the only way this show can redeem itself is with a second season that actually ties up its loose ends.

It was a creepy true story. Then Ryan Murphy got his hands on it.

Has some nice scenes in it, and a very good cast + acting. I also liked the father's arc. Not bad for what it is but not a must watch.

The Watcher has a promising premise and the first few episodes set the stage in all the right ways and then... It doesn't do a lot with it. By the end of it, too few plot threads are resolved. Maybe Season 2 will help but then again, it just doesn't feel like a multi-season show. The scenario rests almost entirely on the formulaic trope of characters making a string of guesses that, of course, all turn out to be incorrect and basically bring the mystery resolution back to where it started.

With a true story at the core, The Watcher wastes the opportunity to really make a creepy show worthy of the tension building. Watts and Cannavale are great actors but the scripts are lacking those moments that elevate the creepy factor beyond a superficial level. It sucks because this easily could have been about the secrets of the home and less about the interpersonal drama of the people in the neighborhood.
