Nathan Fielder (Nathan For You) returns to television for a new series that explores the lengths one man will go to reduce the uncertainties of everyday life. With a construction crew, a legion of actors, and seemingly unlimited resources, Fielder allows ordinary people to prepare for life’s biggest moments by “rehearsing” them in carefully crafted simulations of his own design. When a single misstep could shatter your entire world, why leave life to chance? (HBO) Episode List

For those of us who watched Synechdoche and thought, yeah, but what if it had like even more layers? Fielder created something so insanely convoluted that it's easy to ignore how insightful it is. I appreciate the introspection more than anything. Well, more than anything other than Robin.

The Rehearsal is pure brilliance. As thought-provoking as it is hilarious. Nathan Fielder continues to push the form in ways no one else could

S1-insane, rabbit hole after rabbit hole, "funny, but interesting"

Similarly absurd as Nathan for You. Really entertaining but gets less funny as it gets more meta in later episodes.

Less exploitive than his previous work, but the emotions are a bit forced. The planning and design of Nathan's mechanization are hilarious, but the forced feelings and regret just do not seem real.

Never before been so blown away by a (comedy) show. The layers run deep, so deep. It's hilarious, scary, insightful and maybe most of all very, very sad. I'd say Nathan is a true genius. Also a sociopath probably. HBO should give this guy even more money.

Thought provoking but not very entertaining, besides the first and last episode. Having worked with psychodrama, I found the idea so interesting that I felt I had to see the whole thing.

A brain-scramblingly inventive show, one that seems to question its own existence. These six episodes are loads of fun to watch, for both their astonishing detail of the rehearsals themselves and what they reveal about the participants and Nathan, not to mention the particularly large emotional gut-punches that come along the way. I do find it slightly less funny and clear-minded than his previous shows, Nathan For You and How To with John Wilson.

Nathan is such a fascinating person and I’m not always down for this much dry humor, but when it hits it’s sublime

Interesting concept, but it lacks focus and structure.

Early on, the lengths and expense he put into the pranks were very entertaining. But it seems the plan to put a fake family together didn't work out, first the "father" dropped out immediattely and then the "mother", leaving Nathan to stand in as the "Dad" and kind of...prank himself?

Ep 1 was very interesting, but as it went on I just lost all interest.

Nathan Fielder is back, and even though "The Rehearsal" isn't nearly as brilliant nor as hilarious as the milestone in unscripted television that was "Nathan for You", it's definitely a must-see. I love his ability to take an idea or an angle and runs with it, but I'm hoping that he won't take center stage as much in season 2.

A thought experiment about the obsessive, neurotic control of one's life and of the reactions other people have to it. But I wonder what that thought actually is - for all of Fielder's narration, there is no insight, no tying together the strands of action into something like wisdom. If it's self-referential, Fielder is questioning a void.
