I'm not big on documentaries in general and I find them hard to get into unless it's a subject I'm really interested in or it's exceptionally well made, preferably both. The topic of this was interesting but it didn't fall into either of the aforementioned categories.

Probably the most important unrecognized film in Imamura's oeuvre. In one sweeping gesture, he discovers an unreported ethnographic human culture, and uncovers what can only amount to a government conspiracy against a repressed and uneducated people, before tying it together into a broader human statement of self-reflection. It's a journey every person, not just documentarian, should revisit.
