While Jeremy Brett looks ridiculous in his disguise as the plumber - it seems that it is almost impossible for on-screen versions of Sherlock Holmes to convincingly don a disguise - this does little to detract from the palpable rivalry between Mr Holmes and the uber-creepy C.A.M. (Charles Augustus Milverton, played to perfection by Robert Hard). There are some moments when Sherlock claims that he is not concerned with reason, but he forgets that reason is shot through with emotion (per Peirce).
