The main character is someone only fitting to be a soldier, not a king—Viking-based.

This ended up sneakily becoming one of the best shows in decades. There's one weaker season (fourth, I think) but all the others are excellent.

I usually do not rate series on criticker because I do not favour them as much as movies but if there's one that is worth, it's The Last Kingdom.

A mixed bag. Less ambitious than Vikings but more consistent overall and doesn't suffer from having Fimmel for a lead. It didn't really resolve in a satisfactory manner, but it was a fairly fun ride. Season four was the most problematic with gaping plot holes and dumb choices like "Leave them, the sea will take care of them." Right. And I mean an idiot would rotate that catapult a bit to the left after they missed by hitting the same damned spot just off the boat for ten times in a row.

Seemed interesting, but in 5 episodes the main guy gets something - and loses it, then gets something better - and loses it, and repeat. Standard low-effort writing, to give you a cheap emotional roller-coaster.

Sorta repetitive but still a good show for a lazy Sunday on the couch. Lacks the production value of GOT, however all seasons are solid.

Fun, violent, unique.

Not bad, but it would've been better if it had been closer to the books. Of course, this would have meant a lot more battle scenes and creating landscapes involving ancient hill forts, Viking and Saxon ships, and Saxon London, which would have pushed costs up. At least the three main actors - playing Uhtred, Finan and Sihtric - are hot. EJ 35, IF 25.

Haven't watched more ridiculous thing for a long time except for Norsemen which is a mock-heroic piece of art ridiculing the Viking life. This one regards itself as serious, sadly.

A perfect show. They don't do them like these anymore. Stroke every right chord with me, all through 5 seasons without losing it.

An enjoyable plot, with wit and enough action of both varieties to keep the less plot-driven viewers interested. The characters are genuinely interesting, though the MC's "drive" as it were gets sidetracked in the second season. I cannot comment on the relevance to the books.

Truly captivating. I binge watched it all. It drew me in so completely. I never knew I could be so interested in Vikings. The show has a tendency to skip over things quickly; for example Uhtred getting enslaved.

Think of it as a much slower, lower budgeted Game of Thrones, but rooted in fact. It's hard to get behind Uhtred at times as he makes the same mistakes over and over. There is however a certain charm to his headlong refusal to adapt at times. The supporting cast is of varying interest and talent, but this is still a pretty good second tier show.

Not bad, battle scenes are really well done.

The characters are poorly written and strangely seem to care little about each other for no other reason than that the plot demands it.

Bit slow at the start, and the guy playing Uhtred is a bit boy-band, certainly at the start. But some good casting all round (Alfred and Brida for sure, Guthrum and Iseult as well) pulls it through.

Very slow start - but certainly got there in the end.
