Altogether a slight improvement in the coherency department, but basically just more hollow interpersonal blabber that could've easily been cropped to about 4 episodes. at best. At least the casting of greg sestero as groom needs to be commended. And tommy wiseau as the lady in the lake. Hahaha.

I knew that Bly Manor wasn't going to be as good as what people have told me of Hill House, but I wasn't expecting it to be so messy. This show's attempt at naturalness of expression in its dialogue feels forced onto the characters' lines, which results in the opposite of the desired authentic dialogue. I give it a marginal pass only for the touching love story and ballsy ending.

The flashbacks get exhausting and there really is not enough suspense created. The first hour is great then it fizzles out. I got through about 40% of the show

Bloated - it could easily have six or seven episodes - and Mike doesn't seem as involved with the material as in Hill House, but still emotionally resonant. Such a tragic ghost, love story about being tucked away, navigating the same memories all over again and trying to cope with trauma - one after another. Series finale is just so good. Too bad the first half of the series is a maybe too scattered in its non-linear frenzy. Nothing is as haunting as a love you can't get over - even after death.

The Haunting of Bly Manor is not as scary as Hill House, but it's every bit as emotionally charged and beautiful. It starts off well and slowly builds to a fantastic finale. Anchored completely by stellar performances from every single cast member.

The first few episodes are good but that is because they are barefacedly taken from the 1961 movie the innocents.

The Haunting of Bly Manor starts slow, has a sloppy script, and steals too much from Hill House. However, after the first few episodes it grows into a great story that: explores ideas of loss, grief, memory, and the passage of time, tells a rich love story that managed to sink into my heart, and concludes on a supremely high note. Not as great as Hill House (despite the much better ending) but shows that Flanagan is a man of great talent and left me excited for whatever he chooses to do next.

While on the whole I consider Bly Manor to be less suspenseful, intriguing and satisfying than Hill House, that's only by a small margin; this series is incredibly potent the way it explores ghosts, memory, love and death! I actually think this series' ending is far more heartbreakingly beautiful than its predecessor's, despite it feeling like that whole plot point was added in at the midpoint pretty randomly.

Follows the same formula as Hill House and therefore you know where Flanagan is taking us and which tools he uses to scare you. This makes Bly manor seem less original even though they are seperate stories. The story and characters was for me also less engaging however the kids did a nice job. Add the Netflix formula that now just feels more forced and annoying than progressive and I'm left with a feeling of disappointment

I love 'The Haunting of Hill House', and 'The Turn of the Screw' is one of my favorite books of all time, but once this adaptation starts to depart from Henry James' masterpiece and the dream loops start taking over, this lost me completely. Also, the characters weren't very interesting, and I intensely dislike Pedretti's acting. Amelia Eve might very well become a huge star, though.

Starts out very good. Wanting-to-cover-all-the-mirrors-and-sleep-with-the-lights-on-good. And it mostly keeps it up, even as it trots out a backstory for all the characters. But it doesn't manage to stick the landing. The ending explains way too much, while still leaving way to many details hanging. (What's up with the dollhouse? What story did Flora give little faceless kid?) The use of memories was creative, but ended up feeling repetitive.

Was OK. I personally found the first few episodes to be the best. Somehow, the au pair's hauntings just disappeared with no resolution in the first half of the show, and nothing really came back to replace it. The historical episode is a little interesting, but nothing superb.

A period piece stripped of the period (maybe British is a historical period?). The main issue is that the narrative is anchored to a loathsomely wholesome Midwesterner with tragedy pasted all over her dumb sad face--and that's not a dig at the actress, the *character* is excruciating with the forced pep and the sing-song intonations. But then Liam Gavin+LaManna deliver a fucking knockout with episode 5--the bareknuckle pathos and Miller's Oscar-worthy performance make the struggle worthwhile.

It's a soap opera peppered with a few ghosts now and then. Watch if you like tragic love stories, don't watch if you are interested in a horror series. It has none of that.

While Bly Manor has no narrative connection with Hill House, there are so many actors/creative and themes connecting them it's impossible not to directly compare and for me Bly Manor is massively inferior. The story is more convoluted yet mostly predictable, and only the gardener romance subplot held my interest. The child actors have critical roles but I found them unconvincing, and the penultimate episode exposition dump didn't work at all for me. Sadly BM is just a (ghostly) shadow of HH.
