Magician The Great Merlini, played by Jerome Thor, is hired to prevent a weird jewel heist. And it's a rather good pilot that I'm surprised didn't get picked-up. Perhaps the character The Great Merlini was seen as passé at the time. It had been a decade since the peak of the crime novels this was based on. But at least we got this to enjoy.
