So very bourgeois, but it is quite gripping. It's not fast, it builds its tension slowly, the conversations always leave something unsaid (but implied). The narration helps a lot to create a nice "bubbling below the surface" tone to the hole affair. I watched it with my father, who read the book (and is a Henry James's fan), he loved it, his enthusiasm was contagious; even if this is not the type of story I tend to gravitate to
