The Girl in the Café

This started off in a promising way, and I really thought it might end up as a nice romance between two lonely people. Instead, the writer decided to shove a series of poorly conceived political speeches down our throats, with scene after scene of characters telling each other (and us) what is important. Sermons are for church, and this ain't that. No thanks.

Huh. I wasn't ready for this movie to have a political subplot. The relationship bits between Bill Nighy & Kelly MacDonald ain't exactly great either, it was just awkward to watch.

Very awkward, flat, poorly written (come on, these G8 people surely talk about something other than MDGs in their off time.) Estimating a rating despite abandoning it.

beautiful naive.

Ending sucked, still really enjoyed the rest.

Liked it until the end because idealism of English politicians serving patriotic purposes of director -or producer?- do not fit the rest of the film. But a good script and performance of Nighy carries it.

Pathetic, naive attempt at humanising the concept of aid and politics.

Gets waaaay too preachy

Has its share of flaws, and can be very uneven at times, but it is still a worthwhile film for some food for thought and for a nice story of love between two very different people.

The most uneven movie ever. The first half is great, the last is downright awful.
