A significant series that captures the essence of noir cinema, which could have secured a permanent place in the annals of memory with a more cohesive conclusion.

Endearing and ever so good looking Colin Farrell throws it a lifeline but it's not enough. Confusing, flashy editing that serves no narrative purpose is my main gripe. But i can also raise some annoyances about the voice over, that lazily narrates thoughts and events unnecessarily. Very striking is how Ep.1 was in a total noire style: sweeping vintage music, chill atmosphere, all the vibes. And then after Ep.1 they seemed to have.. forgotten they were.. doing that, like completely?

Solid, although it made me realise I’d be ok with just having this kind of detective story without that twist it has. It’s interesting but I’ve not seen enough good new detective films or tv stories to feel overstuffed by cliches.

Even if Farrell stood in a corner for eight episodes, I would give him an Emmy. This was more than that: brilliant editing, acting, cinematography, but did it really need to do that thing that it did? Seemed kind of unnecessary.

I really liked this and the twist made me like it more. I could do without some of the story-line around the bad guys though.

The first five episodes was not only the best noir I've seen in ages, but also a masterclass in editing, and just soaked in style and love for the genre. Then came the twist... and it pulled me out of the whole thing. I won't spoil it, but suffice to say, I'd appreciated the show a hell of a lot more, had it stayed within the confines of Film Noir tropes.
