Typical TV fare but there's at least one great performance (Feore) and there is some good horror imagery sprinkled throughout.

Writer/producer Stephen King recycles so many of his usual ideas, themes, and stock characters that he ought to get a good spanking for this one

As is the case with most things, and especially in Stephen King stories, the mystery and suspense is superior to what we get in that final episode. I have also developed a soft spot for these corny Stephen King tales & all the character archetypes are kind of perfectly realized and acted through the large and capable ensemble cast.

Cold, wintery, atmospheric. There's an interesting mystery going on around the powerful figure that plagues the small island town, as the constable in charge investigates it while he and the town's characters try to weather the storm that's going on. The mini-series starts off well, but the reveal of the mystery and ending is disappointing, and felt kind of standard and mundane, though it's built up well enough, as Stephen King writes a suitably chilling story.

I miss mini-series being a thing. This one is one of the best Stephen King ones and it wasn't even an adaptation of one of his works.

Turns out the "show that should have been a movie" is not a new thing.

This is one of my the most favorite movie! It takes 4,5 hours but very fascinating one. (i watched two times). If you love Stephen King, snow storm and mysteries you'll love it!! I prefer to watch it when your local weather also snowy and terrible :) Then it will be more impressive! ;)

From what I can remember this was a pretty entertaining mini-series that builds up the suspense to the finale. The standout is undoubtedly a great performance from Feore as the baddie.

I won't say I didn't feel it's 4.5-hour runtime; I definitely did. I feel like there could almost be a director's cut of this "film" that does the opposite of the usual director's cut thing and cuts an hour OUT. But I definitely dug Andre Linoge, a great villain, dug his monologues and him revealing people's dark secrets. Overall it definitely had an impact on me and and interesting ending that I was thinking about for a few days after watching it.

Colm Feore is super creepy. "Give me what I want, and I'll go away." Its length ends up making the ending super predictable, would be my only complaint, but I do still like it quite a bit. And it helps that Stephen King literally wrote this AS a movie.

One of the best examples of my favorite of King's motifs: the future generation is screwed, and screwed up, and it's all our fault. The denouement was amazing, and almost made you forget about the hilarious flying-in-the-skies crap.

Not bad for a TV movie. But some acting was poor and visual effects were sometimes appalling. But still good, and nice ending

Guess the Stephen King movie: Creepy supernatural guy comes to small town and people start dying mysteriously. Everyone believes it's the end of the world and it's up to one guy to save the townsfolk. Answer: Every Stephen King movie (ok, slight exaggeration).

I agree with some of the other reviewers, definitely one of the better (non Darabont) King movies.

This scared the shit out of me when I was younger. Colm Feore is absolutely awesome as "the absolute evil", the rest is almost forgotten by now. There's a couple of "Oh shit, did he really do that?" moments, but mostly because I was horrified, not because I cared about the victims.

Colm Feore is amazing is the villain in this miniseries, and I wish he'd had more scenes or his powers fleshed out a bit more over the course of the show because every scene with him was great. Overall a pretty good watch.

As far as Stephen King-based TV goes, this is second (or that would be third, I guess) only to 'It' and 'The Stand'. Feora is menacing and creepy in sufficient measures.

In my opinion, this is one of the better miniseries spun by Stephen King. The characters and setting are all familiar (a small town in Maine!) as are the villains (ageless, shamanistic men), but the story itself rises above these. The suspense builds to a decent degree, and the denouement is both unexpected and satisfying in its grimness. Highly recommended for King fans.

Didn't age well. You'd think this is a movie from the late 80's.
