Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Silk Stocking

A quality actor will always stand out, even early in their career, among a mediocre cast; that is the case here with Michael Fassbender as the sadomasochistic foot festishist. Everyone else, in particular Everett as Mr Holmes who falls into the trap of reducing Sherlock to a 'troubled soul', pales in comparison (except maybe for Jonathan Hyde). This is a problem because a film cannot be carried by one person, in particular someone playing a supporting role (i.e. Fassbender as Charles).

The only good part of this adaptation was the portrayal of Sherlock. Everything else was terrible, especially the writing. I cannot recommend it even to Sherlock fans. Avoid it.

I liked Everett's Holmes but the story didn't come together very well.

If one can overlook how out of character Holmes, the setting and the storyline, this can still be a relatively curious film to watch.

Disappointment. Expecting a better movie.
