Schmigadoon!

Best musical I've seen in like a bajillion years. EDIT: I still love this but I didn't realise how close the songs were to what they are homaging so I'm gonna knock it down a little and try and see Hugh Jackman in The Music Man on broadway to make up for it.

Schmigadoon! is a cute homage to golden-age musicals that fails to really leave a mark despite plenty of amusing moments. Key and Strong are solid leads. Short and Krakowski are basically cameos. The songs are light and alright. The 1st season is short and doesn't overstay its welcome.

Just couldn't keep my interest.

Review for season 1 : It's not a strong story, it's not especially well acted (except for Kristin Chenoweth), but the songs are really good, and that's what matters the most. Season 2: I appreciate the twist they made to keep this fresh and not a season 1 rehash. Otherwise, same opinion

Often funny; ending was sappy & predictable. Most musical numbers were homages & most of the casting chemistry felt uncomfortable. Aloysius & the pastor had the best chemistry. 🤣 But overall bingeably entertaining.

This wasn't anything special, but I enjoyed it for what it was.

I will preface by admitting I am no big fan of musicals, and then follow by saying this was pretty entertaining. Nothing I am gonna re-watch a hundred times, but its tongue in cheek homage to older musicals and the nonsensical approach to love and other subjects, is worth seeing. The only downside is both main characters are often annoying to the point of being unlikable, but its usually in short bursts.

Like the chaperone left the musical theatre kids unattended in the Apple TV+ basement for a couple hours. Every actor, small or no, is given an opportunity to shine, and they do. The structure of the thing - homaging while leaning into the musical format - is immaculate. I need more content that breaks out into a tap number these days.
