Rio das Mortes

Its a quirky, arty film with a real sense of 'the grass is greener on the other side' about it. It focusses on two people seemingly desperate to believe a better life & circumstances can be found by up rooting themselves from Germany to Peru, regardless of it's shaky economic footing and other practicalities. I did find myself feeling sorry for them, it has to be said. I can relate to having faith and hoping/dreaming of starting a new life elsewhere, even though that is very unlikely to happen.

Rio das Mortes estreava na TV da Alemanha Ocidental há 50 anos. Aparentemente esse é um dos filmes do Fassbinder menos queridos pela galera, mas não sem qualidades, acho que ele lida muito bem na sua temática: o quanto as mulheres tem de aguentar da fantasia/fantasma/bullshit masculina? DVDRip no MakingOff.

Despite being classified under Fassbinder's earliest era, I see this more as the seminal film in the next stage of his post anti-theater work.

Lots of early Godard over here, again. Amateurish, but not so much like Fassbinder's previous works. Check out Fassbinder himself dancing to the Jailhouse Rock like a schzophrenic maniac, while Hanna Schygulla shakes her hairy armpits! This is a cool lost gem.

Underrated... a simple but distinctive film, moving in its own subtle way.
