Reckoning

It gives me no pleasure to tell you that this is kinda good. This weird Australians-as-Americans-in-Australia co-production about a self-loathing serial killer who fells live beehives as self-flagellation. Married to a "reformed" stripper who fell in love with him after he "saved" her from himself. But it shows admirable restraint--rilly!--with an almost total lack of gore, procedural box-checking, or general lurid lingering. There is a deeply-felt, unmelodramatic sadness that sets it apart.
