Raul Julia plays Aram Fingal, a very intelligent computer programmer and a very bored man in the employ of Novicorp, a mega-corporation that exists somewhere in the future. When caught watching "Casablanca" at his desk, Fingal is required to undergo rehabilitation therapy called "doppling." Doppled patients find their minds transferred into the bodies of animals for a new outlook on life (and for a number of amusing nature documentary sequences narrated by Julia)... (imdb)

Yes, it's bad. Yes, it's incomprehensible. Yes, it's embarassingly low-budget. But there's just something about this bizarre movie (charm?) that prevents me from hating it. Classic MST3K episode.

Although featured on MST3K, I have a slight, slight affinity for this movie. You can see Raul Julia desperately trying to transcend the material, which never happens.

80's Sci-fi cheese that doesn't even attempt to make sense.

A movie about a slacker who takes down the government because they have the gall to want him to do his job rather than watch movies at his desk all day.

Absolutely horrible and incomprehensible. Dares to try and imitate Casablanca while coming nowhere near it in terms of quality. Literally painful to watch at points.

THIS RATING ONLY APPLIES TO THE MST3K RIFFED UP VERSION! Without this accompaniment, watching this is worse than having to eat your own guts and then ask for seconds -- a score of 5 without the commentary

Crappy. What was Raul Julia thinking? However, if you watch the movie via MST3K, the flick is almost watchable.

Yeah it sucks, but it sucks in an endearing way. Raul is decent but this thing is so ambitious for its budget it just chokes on its own cheese.

I admire the sheer low-budget ingenuity of the more fantastic parts, but my goodness, the script has a really hard time communicating what's going on, what are the larger implications, and why we should care. And the direction must be terrible - even the indomitable Raul Julia puts in a mediocre performance.

Embarrassingly bad DTV sci-fi extravaganza.

The MSTK commentary is golden for this movie. The actual movie though is an incoherent mess that never justifies its nonsensical storyline and terrible acting.

I think everyone involved in this movie severely misunderstood Casablanca.

I had much trouble understanding what the hell was going on. It's too weird. What the fuck? At some point that lady disguises herself as 'God'? What's doppling? What were they thinking? Why is that man so fat? Why were there so many colours when he hacked? Why did they use (abuse) Casablanca? How did he INTERFACE?! I CAN'T TAKE THIS WEIRD SHIT ANYMORE *selfdestructs*

Good try Raul, but it's hard to make lemonade out of Yak piss (which is what I equate this movie to be).

Minus points for having to see Raul Julia reduced to this. MST3K at their best, though.

Acting of this caliber only comes around once in a lifetime, yet Julia was mysteriously able to outdo this performance when he acted in The Addams Family.

This is somewhat parodic, I think. The plot at least seems to be deliberately farcical, and the future-fied dialogue is only barely straight-faced. As for the effects, the film really couldn't get along without them and the filmmakers were brave even to try, using emerging, novel techniques and on what's obviously a very low budget. It's still quite bad, of course, but it is endearing too.

(The best part of this one was MST calling up OATMB customer support at the end.)
