It isn't great and sometimes the jokes are a little too few and far between, but its very well made and had a fun cast (although most don't have much to do). It needs to pick up the pace if it continues past a first season though. I will give it a chance if it continues because I think it has promise to be better.

S1: The first season works best when Darby and Waititi are interacting as the leads Stede Bonnet and Ed 'Blackbeard' Teach who cultivate an unusual opposites attract friendship and more. Both performers are experienced and suited to the offbeat comedy style and carry the series effectively. Sadly most of the rest of the crew are underwritten or poorly performed with the exception of Bremner and Foad. The season's writing is also fairly disjointed so there's no true treasure to be found here yet

Initially good for a few laughs and the introduction of Waititi as Blackbeard works to great effect, but about midway through the first season, it started to feel like a gaggle of Buzzfeed editors took over the writing and all of the jokes were exchanged in favor of "ooh wouldn't it be *FUN* if this random character was in a relationship with this other character?" And it's just some kinda weird fanfiction episode after episode. I guess the target audience is teenagers?

Comedy is extremely subjective (personal?) and I wouldn't ever take it into consideration when comparing things. I loved the sense of humor in this show, even when I wasn't always into whatever else was happening.

I liked the beginning of s1 and ending of s2 but felt like the meandering inbetween was too much at times. The cast is fun, the stories are amusing, the representation is welcome, it was good but could have been great instead.

I don't think it's quite as good as many people have been making it out to be. I do like the actors, and there are funny moments, but there's not enough of them, and not every episode is all that great. Unfortunately, I don't think it got any better in Season 2, so it didn't surprise me that it was canceled.

Maybe Taika is doing too many things.

First 3 episodes a bit slow but sheer perfection after that.

This show is just so fun, and the relationship between Blackbeard and Stede is just so fascinating to me. I love pirates too so that helps.

I really tried to like it - the show has a great cast and good premise, but somehow it is just dreadful. The series are so far away from even a remote giggle, it's maddening.

If Taika Waititi on the table, I'm on the table too of course. First three episodes are promising and funny, let's see how will the rest work? Also Nat Faxon is hilarious! He is so funny dawg.
