A Masterpiece Theater TV Movie. Though well made, this Jane Austen adaptation wasn't as compelling as others. Still, lavish sets and costumes and excellent performances to be seen.

I liked the two leads and found the circumstances entertaining I just wish the film would've been a little longer to give all the characters a bit more room to breathe.

A suitable adaptation, though draining some of the characters of their dimensions, particularly General Tilney. The ending fits the fast pace (the one time the novel is more abrupt than the film).

The lively performances from two of British acting's brightest young stars - Jones and Mulligan - make this telefilm very watchable despite structural issues. The surroundings and production epitomise the well-oiled period dramas which the Brits do so well. I don't know how faithful to the novel this is but it seems the writers failed to maximise the dramatic potential; the whole thing comes out a little flat and sedate. It's a nice lazy afternoon's entertainment but hardly a bodice-ripper.

What drivel.

This was a nice little story, with a good deal more humor than I've come to expect from these Austen adaptations. The story is a simple, but sweet one, and the flights into Miss Morland's imagination were a nice touch. The pacing is excellent until the ending, as the film resolves much too quickly. Another ten minutes would have made a great difference on that front.
