New Girl

Oddly enough, the opposite of Old Boy in more ways than just the title....as in its not good.

Basically another "Friends" clone about Young People Having Sex and Doing Nothing. I quickly lost patience with its twee style and self-conscious quirkiness, because I'm ever so old and cranky.

I initially watched New Girl because I liked Deschanel's quirky, wide-eyed filmography though that quickly fell to the adage, "to much of a good thing." Luckily, the show has solid writing, a good ensemble cast and plenty of silly jokes to make it worthwhile.

I like the supporting cast even if the writing isn't very good and Deschanel's character is totally insufferable. It has one foot in the old world of bland network sitcoms and another in the more recent, rapid-fare fare of Veep, Arrested Development, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, etc. There is an audience for this show, but it isn't one who demands a certain contemporary, boundary-pushing quality. Check out They Came Together for more of Max Greenfield doing the very specific thing that he does.

Seasons 1-6 are an absolute perfect show, no notes. Hilarious. The shortened season 7 I could live without. It gives the characters some closure, but the time jump forward and focus on a different part of their lives makes the show feel off.

Schmidt was funny. From what i remember, it was certainly not as bad as your laugh-track sitcoms. But it lacked that something special.

Zooey Deschanel is everything I want her to be and more. Too bad the male ensemble around her never seems to get very interesting besides Schmidt.

I'm a big fan of Zooey Deschanel which is why I watched this show, but I quickly became just as much of a fan of all of the actors on this show. By the way, where the heck has Zooey been since this show was finished? All the others have gone on to do several things and she hasn't seemed to do anything since.

Funny! And a refreshingly open attitude about sexual freedom and relationships. Almost progressive for a sit-com.

Actually much more entertaining than I thought it would be! There does seem to be a loss of steam sometime around season 3, but there are plenty of good moments. It has a lot of charm! You will probably dislike characters, but for me that's just part of a good story, all kinds of dynamics occur. It doesn't require a lot of brainpower, so I recommend watching for chuckles while doing chores.

W4E2P1S2V1M1A2R4. Easily my favorite sitcom of all time, even though Season 3 (or maybe the end of season 2, i can't remember) got pretty lame. One of the most quotable shows ever, and just chock full of oddball humor that actually works. Nearly every character (with the exception of Cece and Coach) contributes equally to the humor, meaning no subplot lacks interest.

This is another standard sitcom, however it is still great. All the four male side characters are hilarious.

I actually watched this show all the way through the end of season 3. Up through mid-season 3 or so, I found it genuinely pretty charming and funny in a benign, Friends knockoff sort of way. Then it abruptly became grating to me. I don't know if I suddenly changed or the show did. It's better than a lot of other sitcoms on network TV, certainly, but not great.

Nothing amazing, but it works as an enjoyable watch for a lazy Sunday evening. Edit: Dropped at S06E03 - not fun at all for quite some time.

Pretty solid contemporary sitcom. It starts off pretty strong, then starts to wear thin around seasons 3-4, but then picks back up and is as strong as ever by season 6. Winston just gets better every episode.

Started out promising and silly but quickly jumped to standard sitcom fare.
