Mom

Mom has the cheap looking production and Americana feel that plagues most Chuck Lorre shows. The constant theme has been coping with addiction, almost writing off its motherhood plotlines and replacing them with educational aspiration ones (perhaps unintentionally its funniest joke). The cast is decent, though the inconsistent tone between insult-humour, slapstick, deadpan drama and preachiness make for an uneven watch. Oddly enough a rare show that gets better with age, though never quite good.

Wildly uneven, but--as with most things--Allison Janney makes it frequently worthwhile. The first season episode where she hooks up with the chef is totally hysterical.

I preferred it when the kids were still in it, particularly the daughter, because it became about multiple generations, not just the relationship between Anna Faris and Allison Janney. That relationship is still good, and it lends itself to some funny moments, and the occasional serious moment as well (as a show dealing with addiction and other issues certainly will occasionally do) but it seems like the show has lot a good deal of its charm as its gone into its later seasons, unfortunately.

It gets better once the show concentrates in the "Mom" part of Allison Janney being Anna Faris' mother and it forgets or at least loses focus about the children of the last one. Most of that comes from Allison Janney having more time on screen, being a great actress and having a great character she totally nails.

E' recitata benissimo e infatti si regge quasi esclusivamente sul carisma delle protagoniste, dato che sia i dialoghi che l'impostazione sono scontati e già visti. Migliora parecchio nelle ultime stagioni quando finalmente il focus si allarga anche sulle amiche. Insomma una serie godibile, che si è mantenuta sempre su un buon livello ma senza mai eccellere.

Chuck Lorre tries mixing his broad, bawdy, often cringe-y Two and a Half Men/Big Bang Theory comic sensibility with show that also tries to examine motherhood and alcoholism in a semi-serious way. The results are awkward. Two good leading actresses, though.
