A camp, openly gay teen and a sullen, suicidal youth strike up an unlikely friendship in a foster home in this affecting drama. Liam has been in and out of care throughout his life, never finding a home that wants the admittedly difficult Scouser, while Michael’s middle-class foster parents want him back, and are horrified by his new friendship. This review contains spoilers. Liam really is the star of this story, his emotions and attitude toward a world that has continually let him down really driving the plot. His lack of surprise, just cold disappointment when Michael accuses him of assault tells us all we need to know about his experience of life. When topic of conversation turns to Michael it always seems rushed, Michael is a side note in this story, his trauma just serving as a background to 'the problem of Liam'.
