Les destins de Manoel

Despite it often being considered one of his best by Ruiz aficionados, i found this slightly less impressive than some of his others from this period (at the risk of sounding completely pretentious, it might almost be too easy to follow for a Ruiz film?!). It's still really good though, and it would probably work well as an introduction to his work, since it starts out fairly comprehensible and gradually gets more properly strange, culminating in at least 25 minutes of peak Ruiz-ian insanity.

Rather enchanting. Ruiz makes a children's series full of imagination and capturing the world as if through a child's eyes and never once becomes condescending - this is particularly noticeable in the final 15 minutes which are surreal and aimless and yet bring to mind those wild flights of imagination you'd have as a kid, which as they happened made sense to you (jumping from one idea to another loosely connecting them as you go) even if you can't coherently explain them to an adult.
