La peau de chagrin

Raphaël loses his last coin, then goes to the river to drown himself. On the way he enters an unusual shop and finds it filled with curiosities. The shopkeeper leads him to a skin hanging on the wall. It promises to fulfill any wish of its owner, shrinking each time. He is willing to let Raphaël take it but urges him not to accept the offer. Raphaël waves away his warnings and takes the skin, wishing for a royal banquet. He is immediately met by acquaintances who invite him to such an event. (Wikipedia)
