The real point is that these extraordinary, opulent happenings should be documented, because I myself, and many others I'm sure, have never seen anything like it. The extremely limited narration seems to be intended to let the performances speak of themselves. If you have a lot of interesting footage, and only a slight film, do chuck it out there regardless.

Hardcore award goes to the guy who had multiple scorpions crawl out of his mouth. Runner-up was the guy in the dress made of candles.

A film that functions in some ways as a record of many of the dying arts of India at the time (perhaps Herzog's intention), with the Maharana Arvind Singh Mewar seemingly seeking not to save these performances or performers but to celebrate their existence. The introduction of the film by André Heller almost as compelling as the variety showcase that constitutes the bulk of the film. The colours and choreography of the performers are mesmerising and one cannot help but move to the music.

Mainly footage from a folk art performance put on for the Maharana in Udaipur. It's filled with elaborate costumes and tons of rhythmic music and dancing. And it really is pretty entertaining. I got the feeling this is something not many westerners have ever witnessed. Herzog's camera does a fine job of keeping things looking interesting despite the fact the performers are relegated to a small stage. I admit I got a little bored in the last half hour, but over all this was a neat experience.
