Watch this instead of (or at least before) the Disney version - it's superior in every way.

The filmed stage show format is something I wish they did for more musicals. More humorous and 'edgier' than the dark second act of the Disney version.

Glorious, heart-wrenching and sublimely beautiful. My absolute favourite musical of all time. Sondheim's score is genius and the book by James Lapine is so layered and dynamic, full of fantastic characters, humour and, ultimatley, some big moral questions. I cry everytime during 'No-one is Alone'. Perfect melodrama. Bernadette Peters is amazing. The whole cast are amazing. FLAWLESS.

As a direct contradiction to my review of The Wizard of Oz, this film is quite enjoyable. The characters are lovable, the story is inventive and fun, and there's plenty of comedy to keep it fun for everyone!

A brilliant masterwork by Sondheim, with a strong accomplished cast. Bernadette at her best. Highly quotable, and filled with great messages and substance.

Superb musical that is funny, interesting, and intelligent, featuring good songs and a great performance from the wonderful Bernardette Peters.

Bernadette Peters and Joanna Gleason are especially awesome in this.

Normally I like Sondheim but this is annoying

The only points this gets is because I can't hate the cast or the production itself, only the play.
