In Treatment

TV: All in all my favourite television experience of all time. Brave, empathetic, introspective, incredibly well acted and produced, In Treatment sums up everything I demand from the best of TV and film - though I have rarely if ever found its match. This show coincided with a traumatic period in my life and its drama offered emotional grounding and catharsis. It thus occupies a warm and tender spot in my memory, and I'm indebted to those involved in its creation. S1: 100|S2: 95|S3: 98

wish its therapy sessions were just that and didn't relate back to the therapist in painfully obvious ways. couldn't give less of a shit about byrne here, his brilliantly acted patients provide the intrigue. if you've been wondering why mia wasikowska is suddenly in EVERYTHING despite not being conventionally attractive, watch her virtuoso performance in s1 (easily the best season). also helped launch the careers of people like dane dehaan & alison pill alongside a host of more seasoned stars.

I have a really hard time believing that EVERY patient would be so unbelievably hostile and confrontational towards their therapist. Gabriel Byrne is a treat, it's wonderful to see how he gets to use his native accent. The fatherly, but inwardly torn intellectual role suits Byrne delightfully. (Rating given based on first season)

The show I always wanted to write myself. Season 1: 90

I remember watching the first season of this when it first came out on DVD and very quickly deciding to skip everything but the Melissa George and Mia Wasikowska stories, for obvious reasons. Strives to give the impression of watching somebody else's therapy sessions but it's very heightened and too conventionally plotted to feel anything but disingenuous.
