Julia Roberts and Bobby Cannavale were supposed to shroud the central premise in all the mystery but neither one was provided enough depth until it was so convoluted that it was not worth the pay off. It had plenty of pieces that could have allowed for a smoother and more relentless pace but it opted for long waits and zero big time payoffs. Smaller more affective reveals would have helped generate a potentially larger season finale.

Homecoming is not a show for the average person. It’s somewhat slow and really drawn out. That being said I greatly appreciated how stylish it was due to Sam Esmail’s directing. The score, which vaguely reminded me of 80’s horror at times, was interesting as well. Unfortunately it just isn’t complex enough with its twists and turns to warrant the 5 hour runtime. If it was a 2 1/2 hour movie it would’ve been better.

If you watched every other episode, I don't think you would miss anything important. It's consistently well made but tends to fall short when it attempts big moments. The framing/aspect is distracting, as is the classic movie soundtrack. For the first few episodes I missed whole conversations while thinking how similar tunes were to those from movies - and then when I found out that they were the actual pieces, I was similarly distracted involuntarily playing name the film.

Props for the great style and direction, its visual flair is really remarkable and meticulous and for me that's a big part of the fun. The 30 minute format makes it pleasantly condensed enough to be a very watchable mystery binger. Well above average on streaming

Should've been a 90 min. movie, not a 17 episode ultra-slow and ultimately boring mystery. There is nothing behind that slowness, expect that it gives time to listen to some old music scores.

There was something interesting going on under the surface but the show wouldn’t actually get around to addressing it. Did not finish

So, *so* dull. Cliche, flat, text-book characters and a story path that mistakes lack of information or development for suspense; there is so little hinting at whatever the mystery is that it's impossible to care. Gave up after first 5 eps had content that could have easily fit in 2. A big shame as the actors do a solid job and there's some interesting cinematography: interesting framing, nice shots and lighting, and disquieting episode endings.

Season 1 was pretty impressive, inevitable where it ends up considering the plot. Enjoyed the cinematography and how well it's relied on to build the story. Watched first episode Season 2 and will probably stop there to not spoil my liking to this.

Sure it's pretty and all--phenomenal shots with a vaguely Lynchian aesthetic--but it's just too slow when nearly all the characters are gratingly unlikable. The mystery yarn just never seems worth it to slog through yet another 30 minute episode that feels like an hour.

season 1 was decent, impressive and gripping with julia roberts and bobby cannavale. interesting story, unique cinematography style, great acting. my score would probably be around 80 if the series had ended there. nonetheless, they decided to shoot another season with a different director and without julia roberts and bobby cannavale and it was a fiasco. so many hollywood cliches. horrible and incredibly theatrical performance from janelle monae.

A bit on the slow side, but Esmail continues to impress with his stylistic choices, and Roberts turns in a really great performance.

Too slow. Instead of 10, this could have been covered in 3 to 4 episodes. Season 2 pacing is much better.

I found Bobby Canavale’s character in the narrative rather unaffecting. The bulk of the season relies on tension/mystery created by him, but we never get the sense of what he’s capable of/what the stakes are. So the narrative has to fall back on the aesthetics, performances of the two leads, and the effectiveness of the story as a “page turner.” All of these elements are pretty great, but it leads to the feeling of the pace being overly drawn out at times. Good but not great first season
