Overproduced with all its dumb graphics, surface entry-level history and with a heap of Current Year identity politics on top that lands like a spoonful of diarrhea on top of already mediocre ice cream. Don’t know who the target audience for this is - anyone interested enough in video games to watch this already knows all this stuff. Just a demonstration of why independent YouTube creators have dominated video game content for over a decade and will likely continue to do so.

I had surprisingly pleasant and nostalgic feelings while watching this. It was like taking a time machine and travelling back to my childhood, just this time I saw the whole story from the viewpoint of the game creators. I cherrish the time I spent watching this docu series and I was actually really sad when it ended. Recommended for every gamer, especially if you are old enough to remember the "good old days".

It doesn't know how to focus. It's about the history of video games or about the story of (some) gamers? You can't have both at the same time while keeping a 252-minute running time. The history aspect is rushed and one-sided. The human aspect is shallow and manipulative. Both could make a great series on their own. Why do modern documentarists feel the necessity to blend everything into one big spectacle of brevities finished by a melodramatic punch? Has didacticism become a mortal sin to them?

Over produced. Too little actual information is given on each episode. Survivorship bias all over the place. For sure there are better takes at the in principle very interesting history of video games.

Really enjoyed this but it won't be for everyone. It's a little too nerdy in it's love for how video games were made by the people who made them but that works for this viewer. If you're not interested in the illegal origins of the software engineering feat that was Starfox, this may not be the droid you're looking for.

This documentary gives a solid insight to the 8-bit and 16-bit era. A little bit of what had been previously, but not much of what came later. Unfortunately the focus was too much of competitions and random characters from that circus. Early Esports and stuff, which I couldn't care less about. Instead of bringing more in-depth stories from those early years, I felt they wasted time on trying to link video games with mainstream pop culture and modern day diversity. I just wanted video games.

Disjointed, superficial and overreliant on cutesy pseudo 8-bit animation, but still contains a lot of interesting stories and footage. The cast of talking heads is impressive.
