Who knew that it was perfectly normal and acceptable to start blurting out a song in the middle of the hallway? Well, apparently Disney thinks it is. As if the first High School Musical was not unpleasant enough for you, Disney decided to make another HSM film which contains just as much cheesy acting and random singing as the first. Though Zac Efron is easy on the eyes, there is no excuse for this pathetic attempt of a movie. Nice try Disney.

I am twice as old as the intended audience for this film. I am supposed to be watching serious films. Why was I drawn to it? Why did I come crawling back for more after HSM1? Don't I know better? This kind of camp schtick is so not my thing, but at the same time those bright fluorescent colours verge on hypnotic; and those twirling, lithe, effervescent teenagers with their juvenile bubblegum pop songs are so damn infectious. Curse you, Disney, and your fake, plastic, sinfully delicious utopia!

If you really think about it, Gabriella is like a super awesome person. Also, this installment contains the greatest moment in the HSM saga, when Troy and Gabriella's lanterns magically fly away and turn into fireworks after they finally kiss.

It’s much too long to sustain its creaky plot, and there’s a homogenised “niceness” to it that gives the whiff of an after-school special, but once again it’s hard to dispute that these kids have talent; some bouncy musical numbers and a definite step-up in audiovisual/production values make this a fairly easy watch on its sliding scale (and Tisdale has some genuinely amusing moments as the campy, Hilton-like antagonist). Aspirations to GREASE are more hopeful than actual!

Had to watch this over two nights a few weeks apart, so my memory isn't great. A slight improvement over the first one, and probably has the best actual script in the trilogy, with characters given arcs and development. The country club setting is weird. It's almost as if they originally wrote a 50s teen beach party homage, but then for budget reasons had to film in Utah, but I guess it works. Best Musical Number: "I Don't Dance" (the baseball one)

A huge step up from the first film. While the first one was just bad this was bad in a Saved By the Bell kind of way.

The progression from the last movie is good. I liked a lot of the music in this movie. I could see myself listening to some of it outside of the movie. The story is juvenile but I don't think that should hold the movie back too much because it was made for that kind of audience. I think most of the characters are static there isn't any progression except for Ryan who became a lot more likeable in this movie. I suppose I'll finish out the series just so I can say I tried.

What's worse than a high school musical? A dark middle-chapter where the "relationships" are tested. I couldn't even recommend this to those who enjoyed the original.

Doesn't have that je ne sais quoi that the first one does, but carries its own merits in that regard. No film has had the certain distinction of getting the masses to vote for a cameo and subsequently crowbar Miley Cyrus into the film at what almost seemed last-minute. Other options included Billy Ray Cyrus, and his cameo could've been better than in Mulholland Drive, but only just. My 1000th movie reviewed on here, and i couldn't have picked a better one.

I found HSM2 to be a notch better than the original. Zac sang his own songs. Lucas Grabeel as Ryan, excellently helped progressive causes with his dancing-baseball number. A great film for teens and Efron fans alike.

Mistake - In a swimming pool scene, when Gabrielle is called into action, her stunt double is seen and it's obvious that the double is pf a different age and a different build.

If the movie were just the "Bet on me" scene alone, however, it would be perfect.

Not convinced it's an improvement over the first one, but again, not terrible. Over the top acting, to be sure, but it's good clean fun, which there just isn't enough of these days.

An entertaining film that seems to revive some of the nostalgia from its mega hit predecessor. However the new setting and plot just doesnt provide quite the same spark.

I didn't hate this as much as I thought I would (especially since I haven't seen the original) but it is pretty derivative and unoriginal. The catchy music saves it.

When this came on TV I thought I might as well watch it out of curiosity more than anything. As soon as the thing started it was apparent how poor it was in many areas. The acting stinks, the songs are rubbish and the plotline is entirely absent. To round everything off the random assortment of teenage actors, if you can even call them actors, are of the typically arrogant American bastard stereotypes. Attacks both the ears and the eyes with a relentless spree of well choreographed crap.

It's not as good as the first, and somehow I think it's because of a rise in production quality lowering the cheap charm of the first film. It's definitely not past the point of deminishing returns though. A bit more depth, a bit better songs and overall better production. But for this kind of film, those things aren't always a positive.
