It has new ideas and topics in it, but it seems like it piles up insignificant subplots instead of showing the lives of misfits locals all connected together like you can guess it tried doing. Sometimes it is generic or hard to even get what upsets the characters, so it spoils the drama part. Gross seems here less experienced in acting as he got later in life, and so he is a bit stiff and unnatural.
