It has absolutely ugly looking CGI animation, this could be forgivable if it somehow had a engaging plot and characters to care about.. alas it far from does. This is a horrible written movie with a half baked disjointed plot that glosses over developments and with underdeveloped characters whose connections are implied instead of shown, on top of that it's also horrendous to look at. It's best to never speak of this abomination again.

It's very strange seeing the Ghibli aesthetic applied to a CG-animated film, but I guess if this keeps the lights on at the studio, I'm okay with it. It's repetitive and a little tiresome, and there's not much here that approaches the richness and beauty of Ghibli's past triumphs. Still, it's basically fine children's entertainment. The end credits include a series of hand-drawn images detailing the events following the film, and these offer more warmth and charm than anything included prior.

I love the animation style of Studio Ghibli so I figured I should watch Earwig and the Witch which has the new animation style. I was so disappointed in the animation style I struggled to focus on the story line. With a cast of characters that are half erased after enough time to enjoy their presence and lots of unanswered questions overall I was not impressed. Not a movie I intend to buy to add to my collection.

With such high expectations, perhaps this was always going to fail. Abandoning its rich and beautiful animation for this clunky CG animation already makes it feel like a mistake and removes any magic that the usual Ghibli Studio films have. Then you top it off with a lacklustre story, that is uninspiring, to say the least. One mistake you can overlook, a second makes it a disaster.

I tend to only rate things now when I know for a fact I'm sure. I'm sure.

Okay here's the thing, I didn't like the animation, though I liked the facial expressions. I liked the music but felt they were often out of place. I liked the characters but didn't get enough of them. In fact, I was just starting to get into this when it ended.

The ending feels super rushed but the movie is pretty OK and the Prog Rock is fantastic.

Honestly better than I expected, if only they hadn't forgotten to make the entire third act... the prog rock music kicks serious ass though!

Cute but I fail to see what it was all about in the end. Who are the 12 witches ?

Amca size baba diyebilir miyim? Teyzeeeeeeeeoooooo.

Haha what the heck? Studio Ghibli drops their beautiful classic 2D animation in favor of 3D animation that in 2020 is about on par with the original 1995 Toy Story in terms of depth texture facial expressions etc. The super sudden ending is about as dumbfounding when the credits hit as some mid 00s douchebag mumblecore movie.

Shockingly bad, ugly, and overall Ghibli's worst film by a mile. Unfortunately my three year old loves it so I've seen this as many times as Totoro.

Kiki's Delivery Service is what this film wants to be. Go watch that instead. CGI is obviously not Studio Ghibli's forte (yet anyway).

It's a fine movie, nothing special. It felt a little meandering and the ending felt unearned and too quick, but I had low expectations.

Cute and fun enough, but Goro continues to prove he does not measure up to his father as a director. He seems to think that open-ended, ambiguous storytelling makes for interesting cinema, but here, just as in his previous films, it just ends up feeling vague and unfulfilling.

If witching were real this is totally how it would work. "You want a potion to win first place at the dog show? Ugh, fine. That'll be $29.95."

Earwig and the Witch feels like a more direct adaptation of Jones' book, given the stylistically-consistent annoyingly-abrupt ending, though admittedly I haven’t read it. The animation is more akin to Laika than Studio Ghibli, and is not bad, technically or thematically. The film is definitely more exclusively aimed at a younger audience with a more simplistic (and somewhat unrealised) story & themes compared to other Ghibli film. Henderson’s voice as the titular character gets a little grat
