Doom Patrol

Completely fucked up and funny. Alan Tudich is a fantastic bad guy who keeps breaking the 4th wall and narrating the shit out of everything. The "superheroes" are so damaged that they do more harm than good, there's a gender-queer living street, a nazi hive mind professor and a rat french kissing a cockroach. What more does one want?

Ragtag group of offbeat superheros trying to overcome immense emotional issues while the main villain feeds off of those very emotions. I am super pumped to watch more of this show. it really has me drawn in. Therapy! Therapy! THERAPYYYY!

Not enough skillful actors to fit their parts. Robotman looked silly. Outcast superhero premises was okay, but it did not lead anywhere interesting. I survived an episode or so.

After season 1

When it's good, it's good. When it's bad, it's bad. The early seasons worked better because of the freshness of the irreverant vulgarity. Eventually, the main crew and its dynamics got repetitive in a bad way. You can only take so many bad CGI butt jokes until they feel lazy. The show lost its direction after two seasons, and the ending wasn't worth going through all of it. Quite sad, since the first seasons were some of the most entertaining TV around back then.

Whacky, whimsical, wonderful. This show breathes new life into superhero media and weird sci-fi in general. Now if only someone could adapt The Invisibles.

The later season isn't as good, but this is one of the best superhero shows on TV. Really great characters.

Jane alone brings this show down. A pathetically lazy excuse for a plot device, 63 mcguffins built into one tedious and flat character, acted notably and distractingly poorly compared to the others. Some funny moments, not enough to justify a circular plot.

S1-2. There are some episodes where I completely zone out until the next one comes on. Brendan Fraser is back acting but unfortunately we don't see him. This is the best April Bowlby has looked though we hardly see her powers. Niles is a villain. Tudyk is amazing but weakened at the end. Jane is just something we have to deal with. I love the offbeat side characters like Danny the Street, animal mineral vegetable man, and the mouse. S2 grows on me. Fav scene: Flex Mentallo accident.

Better than the typical aggressively meh DC show but it doesn't have the budget or skill necessary to make optimum use of its premise. Doom Patrol is a bit too cartoony and LOLsorandom. Still, if you must watch a DC show, this is the one to pick. Its sci-fi horror bent reminds me of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, except this operates on a less purposeful, less intelligent level.
