A gripping story told in a thoroughly engaging way that only soured for me in the closing minutes. I spent much of the runtime thinking: Isn't it a little socially irresponsible to show this guy's image and say his name over and over again when he's so clearly obsessed with fame and attention? The film brings up this quandary in the closing minutes, but instead of addressing it legitimately, they try to point the finger at the audience. That's not how producing media works!

Seeking a counterbalance to the totally unlikeable protagonist (see title) in order to make the story more palatable, the filmmakers end up exaggerating the role of the internet sleuths (and also avoid giving a true indication of the content of the murder video). Nevertheless, it's never boring and gives some insight into the psychosocial pathologies of the contemporary age, from online addiction to unbridled narcissism. Follows the now-standard rulebook for the production of this type of thing.

This is an brilliant paradigm of how to write a thrilling documentary script. The less you know going into this the better - and it wholly relies on that. The exposition is paced and portioned well enough to make it impossible to stop watching.

There seems to be an endless supply of insane true crime stories for Netflix to turn into great docuseries. Keep 'em coming!

First episode was brilliant story telling, and while the story didn't die out after that, it declined in quality during the last two episodes.

This probably would have been better had I not already known everything beforehand (this happened in my city and was all over the news)

The incident being very gripping aside, this is very mediocre filmmaking that can't even touch the heights of "Jinx".

Great doco-series to go into cold. I love seeing the work of dedicated online vigilantes, especially one that accelerates like this one (which fills up just enough for three episodes). But the ending that turns the attention of the viewer's morbid voyeurism right onto ourselves just leaves a nasty taste in our mouths -- I'm sure this killer takes solace in having a doco made all about him as he gets ass-rammed in prison.

This is trully amazing stuff about the power of the internet, The web made it possible very deranged people to share their sick videos, but also made possible random people to meet online and do a better job in crime investigation than the police itself. There's no better time to appreciate this than this Corona crisis when people are more connected than ever without even meeting each other. And the whole story about the "Basic instinct" really blew my mind. Life really imitates art.
