A very old woman wants to have dinner with her friends. As they are all dead, the butler has to play the role of every guest. He does a very good job, but wine can get you easily drunk, when you're drinking it for six people! (imdb)

This sketch enjoys enduring and bewildering popularity in Europe, and is shown every year one New Year's Eve in many countries. It's reasonably funny.

It is said that Germans find this terrifically funny, a case in point for the humourlessness stereotype. Mostly older Germans in my experience though.

With plans to be away from my family this year at Christmas, I surfed for "recipes for one" which somehow led to this short film with a reasonably similar title that apparently is quite popular in Europe at this season. I didn't find it outrageously funny, but there's something to the "same procedure this year" that I empathize with. Worth watching once, just to see what the fuss is about.

I found the premise fascinatingly Faulkner-esque, but the actual humor just did not do it for me at all.

It's alright. Kind of repetitive but it's only 11 minutes so it's not to the point of tedium.

One of the more baffling instances of something unknown in its country of production becoming insanely popular elsewhere. Given its most famous quote - "the same procedure as every year" - it's also oddly appropriate that many countries show it once a year...or perhaps that's the point. Does happen to be pretty funny nonetheless.

There are basically two jokes in the film repeated ad nauseum for 11 minutes. I was mildly amused and the execution of the jokes is at least varied a little, not much here though.

Being a Norwegian this film is about 50% of what makes up Christmas for me. Excellent and hilarious.
