Death and the Compass

In many ways Alex Cox is so stupid, but I love him.

Usually I would be very wary of cinema adaptations from Borges. This isn't actually perfect, but it's pretty good, and a neat effort.

The problems with the film, aside from the pointless sequences with an older Treviranus, is that the murder mystery plot is not that interesting. In comparison, everything else - the swirling cameras, the colours, Christopher Eccleston - is far more interesting; the best part of the film is when it suddenly goes into abstract ideas of reality at the end, more than likely from the original story, which shows what this film should have been.
