Dark Night of the Scarecrow

For all you falling over each other blathering about Tarantino giving Sharon Tate agency in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, this movie does the same thing but for the intellectually disabled character from Straw Dogs. Ohhhhh. Think about it. Ahhhhh.

DNotS is the endearing tale of a pedo who accuses another man of being a pedo and gets 4 other pedos to help kill him. The ghost of the non-pedo then rises from the grave to stalk and pick off the pedos-who-may-not-actually-be-pedos-because-I-wasn't-really-paying-that-close-attention. Anyone who mocks Charlize Theron's inability to run from shit properly should watch the final three minutes of this movie in which a pedo mailman attempts to flee a tractor doing 5 mph in a 100-acre pumpkin patch.

Has a tone somewhere in between Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Pee Wee's Playhouse. Today's secret word is... Pitchfork! Oh, here comes the Mailman! Hi, Mr. Mailman! Mreaaheehee!

Much better than I ever expect a TV horror movie to be. Scary and intense

With the budget given and the fact it was a 'TV movie', it is terrific

Nicely done. If I didn't know otherwise I couldn't have guessed this was a made for TV film.

Not so good that you can't tell it's a TV movie (c'mon) but not so bad that you want to disembowel someone who says that (c'mon).

No bad for a TV movie from the 80s

Creepy TV movie that has a good cast and is parts supernatural and parts slasher movie.

Though a TV movie, pretty intense thriller/horror, and Charles Durning was basically in the lead role.

This movie did the whole drowning-in-corn thing 37 years before A Quiet Place did it! It also has a 60-year-old Charles Durning springboard off a headstone to tackle his friend in a graveyard, hell yeah! Dark Night of the Scarecrow rises above its restrictive form as an early 80s made-for-TV movie— for the most part, there's no getting around the old square TV-screen formatting or the hard cuts to black for commercial breaks

This is the movie by which all other TV horror movies should be measured. The story is simple, well-executed, poignant without being preachy, & very entertaining to boot. The small-town atmosphere is perfectly captured, the performances are great, the characters are written well, & what small holes the plot does have it covers easily. There's a great Halloween vibe, & the low budget is never an issue. The ending is the cherry on top of it all. This is a classic & deserves to be seen.

Always judge those who are different.

There are a lot of familiar face from TV shows and low budget genre film in this thing with was a big plus for me. This ended up being a surprisingly effective thriller.

Just as good as the slasher stuff being churned out at the time, which is to say, not extremely good. This one feels a little more supernatural, which is to its benefit. I wouldn't look down on it because it wasn't a theatrically released movie, but you shouldn't be clambering to find it either.

Unusual and effective slasher story. There's a quality that breaks through the stereotypes and hammy acting, helped by a decent synth score. Some good creepy moments.

The moral of this story I suppose is not to mess with rednecks cause usually they're drunk, crazy and well-armed. Now that's good advice.
