Sometimes your shallowness is so thorough it's like depth.

I think someone went snooping through my Junior High / High School years and made it into a cartoon they named Daria

Its cynical title character was a very different protagonist, and it was one who was able to poke at the hypocrisy of the adult world and high school all through use of sharp wit. Very well-written. There's been nothing quite like it.

High school life through the lense of a sarcastic, pessimistic, and entirely self aware outcast who sees the absurdity of high school and the people involved with it for what they really are. One of the few shows that manages to write an intelligent and relatable character that doesn't feel forced.

The type of show that makes you chuckle, but rarely laugh. Bigger issue is that Daria is so dour, it's not much fun to spend time with her.

A show that everyone should watch before high school, but funny enough, cannot truly be appreciated until after high school's been experienced. 'Daria' captures the teenage experiences better than most shows ever manage thanks to its balanced and diverse cast of characters, sardonic (but not pretentious) humor, and ageless appeal.

I was a little bit in love with Daria as a 14 year old.

made me suspect there are sentient people in America too, they just have it even harder / Seriously, for culture nerds there is hardly a better identification figure in contemporary media than Daria, but the show built around her is not all that special.

An entire cast of straw man characters for Daria to be smart with. And there's like 60 episodes of it.

Daria is brilliant because it follows an "outside teen" template but subverts it. There are dumb jocks and cheerleaders, but the show smartly puts forth a message that they're still people who don't fully fall into any traditional template, much like Daria herself. It's as anti-John Hughes as it gets, and that's also about as good as it gets.

Has a nice wit to it at points, but overall I kind of just wanted to smack Daria and telling her to stop being such a fucking surly teen. I think I'm too old for this show. I wonder how I'd have responded if I actually saw it back in the 90s. I only watched the first half-season before getting bored.

Nice, if not the most memorable series of its day.

Every character except Daria is annoying as fuck. Kevin and Brittany seriously make me almost hate this show.

I only watched it recently, but since I'm still a teenager in my early adult years, it seems fitting. Great characters all round, whether it is the affable, yet sarcastic Daria and Jane, or the ditzy Quinn, Brittany, and Kevin. I might be a bit harsh with this rating because of the season when Daria and Jane got boyfriends and this basically turned into Dawson's Creek.

Quite like the art-style and don't dislike it but, I've got the same problems as with King of the Hill; 1/ there's no need for this to be animated 2/ If it wasn't animated it would seem even less funny.
