Lady in Waiting

Makes you wonder that if Beth Chadwick (Susan Clark) wasn't so bungling stupid to flaunt her new-found freedom so much, after she disposed off of her brother, maybe the murderer actually had a chance of giving Columbo the slip this time. And I think Leslie Nielsen was born old.

This is one of those episodes where during the murder scenes at the start you go like "nooo... you're screwing up too much! You'll make it too easy for Columbo! This could have been percet!", and it's really, really weird to see Leslie Nielsen (looking exactly the same as he does three decades later) in a non-comedic role.

The setup and performances are good in this one. The way the killer imagines her perfect plan only for it to go completely wrong. The ending felt a bit sudden and unrealistic.

Very good performance by Susan Clark. For the first time I saw what I always wanted to know - what would Columbo do if the murderer tried to shoot their way out of the arrest, a very cool classy talk down.

Spoiler alert: Beth Chadwick did it and later on gets caught.
