Bo Burnham: What

I can't say you'll like it, but I can definitely say that you should give this guy all the credit in the world for deserving any success he gets. I've been around lots of young comedians and none of them even put 1/10th the effort into doing what they do that Bo does. Not only that, but he may rival South Park in his ability to encapsulate the incompetence and/or idiocy of a thing into a single song.

Bo Burnham offers a stylistically diverse, refreshing take on comedy in what is quite an elaborate stand-up show from a technical standpoint, and certainly a very engaging one for that matter. The material isn't necessarily as subversive as the style would suggest, however the reckless abandon with which he alternates between the various bits will have you wondering what's next in this very funny but also rather unique comedy special.

Seen: 2. Burnham's ascent as one of the all time great stand ups started right here. He is expertly screwing with form and expectations, knowing the exact right moments to bring levity to his one man show.

A really pleasant surprise. Not all that haha funny, but it's smart and sympathetic and the experimenting with form here really works. Might need to score it higher on a rewatch. This was quite fresh.

This one solidifies it - I really do like Bo. After watching this it made me look at his older stuff and this kid has been a prodigy since the age of 15 when he started doing Youtube. At times you feel like a 21 year old shouldn't be this perturbed by life yet. He speaks to the product that is his generation and how completely insane it has become. I like the songs a lot more in this special. Hopefully his wit and charm keep up with his age.

sometimes i thought he seemed like he was tryna keep him and the audience in a state of awkward/cringe/embarrassed lol and any time it was recovering he would do it again, and it made him seem like he was on drugs :P part of why generally his worst special, but also had 3 of his best classic songs/bits

Dark, deep, diverse in subject matter and demanding of your attention. This special showcases Bo Burnham in a bizarre middle area between the sheer edge of his early works and the infinitely layered existentialism of Inside. From the struggles of a conflicted mind to the nihilism of nature, from the priorities of god to the built-in fascism of the modern pop music industry, What remains hilarious and relevant 10 years later.

No Burnham never misses.

His delivery is always a little too self consciously cute.

This particular special got me through my senior year of high school. If not for this special my Bro's Night group wouldn't be getting together to this day. The subtle undertones in his music telling a genuinely heart tugging story about being young and up and coming through the entertainment industry is creative and I definitely missed it all growing up. He works extremely hard for perfection and he achieved it. I love his comedic timing. I always come back to it.

Pretty unique in its experimentation with form. Light in depth, but entertaining, well paced and it's clear a lot of work has gone into it. Not as laugh out loud funny as other comedians can sometimes be, but always a good time and I love Bo's attention to detail.

Lots of great ideas, but some of the execution is subpar, as is some of the music. Juvenile, but showing signs of future quality.

This kid is messed up.

A decidedly weird but intelligent and engaging type of comedy. Burnham will keep you enthralled with absurdities and dirty jokes and then suddenly hit you with something so painful that it makes you flinch.

A flawless, hilarious performance and a true artistic achievement.

Oh wow. This kid really surprised me. He is talented, smart, and his heart is in the right place. Winning combination. When he started channeling Bill Hicks a huge smile crept up on my face and the world seems slightly better place:)

I want more Bo Burnham. It's weird, it's different and oh boy is it funny.

Just kind of seems like watching a special by the class-clown who was given some recording equipment and an hour long slot at a talent show. This will probably be the meanest any of my reviews get XD...

Pretty funny and an improvement from his prior special. I particularly like that he's pushing the form, which bumps the score a bit from where I'd place it just in terms of laughs.

Well I guess I'm not hip and with it anymore, I had a good run. This LIL BOY cannot do a segue to save his life and he hides this with fart songs ugughugh

Fantastically unique comedy. This was my first experience with Bo Burnham, so I really had no idea what to expect, but I really wound up enjoying myself. It was a bit too intentionally ironic at times, almost shying away from really seeing his bits to completion, but fantastic none the less.
