Y'all seem to be lukewarm when it comes to 'Smithereens', and I hope it's because of the missing Sci-fi elements, because Andrew Scott and Topher Grace fucking nailed it.

The ideas behind this episode are not anything particularly fresh. But, the whole thing is totally worth it for Topher Grace. He is perfect here, and there's a lot of good humor if you can appreciate it under these circumstances.

A tense if somewhat maudlin presentation concerning the engineering of screen-addiction through the destruction and capture of attention.

Why the hell was this so long? I mean this was good but it only needed to be 30 minutes long max.

Familiar story with obvious plotting and no twists to be found but well made, excellently acted, and decently tense in moments

The technological theme of this episode is not very exciting, but forgetting that, this is a darkly humorous drama with good performances.

It offers up the message that checking your cell phone anywhere anytime while driving can lead to fatal consequences. Beyond that it was just a typical hostage film where the main character wanted to take ownership of his past mistakes and needed drastic measures to do so. Fine performances from Scott and Grace, it does not quite get going until the latter joins the fold. It could have been better and less formulaic in delivering the message that social media is taking over our lives.

A decent and well-acted, but at times almost painfully familiar little hostage thriller.

Most of these points are for Topher Grace.

The concept/critique has been done better before in BM, but the dark comedy + Scott's & Grace's performances almost make it.

One of those Black Mirrors that doesn't really feel like a Black Mirror, this is a pretty straight-up story with no futuristic technology but instead an underlying criticism of attention-craving in the modern world. Scott puts in a great performance, and it kills an hour fine; I'm not likely to watch it again though.

Actually a low-key hilarious black comedy. Truly humerus, ironic, and dark.
