In the back of my mind, this is what I always wanted Star Trek to be like - mature, gritty, and serialized, with fantastic action, characters, writing, cinematography, acting, and music. Frakking well-done.

Remarkably inventive and well-made series that just suffers from some missteps at the end, seemingly as a result of not having a clue how to resolve either the narrative or the ideas.

Battlestar Galactica is the gritty reboot that re-inspired a genre (and possibly the demand for reboots). Driven by character and story, it's thoroughly entertaining, and honestly I even enjoyed the ending. If nothing else the show also gave us Bear McCreary's score, including All Along the Watchtower, retuned.

I was quite surprised this was so good. Quite an impressive turn around from the older installments. I mostly loved every episode and got invested in many of the characters. There were so many great performances along the way. The writing was superb & edgy. It would be impossible to not love half a dozen actors in this series.

A weak final few seasons really drags the score down, from what started as a very innovative relaunch with some stunning visual effects.

Maybe I'm rating this preemptively considering I haven't even made it to the end of season two, but I'd rather just get it out of the way so I don't have to think about it. This is a legitimately great show with its heart in exactly the right place, and even though there are some missteps here and there, ultimately, it does have some very real and important things to say about the struggle of life and the relationships we form to help us get us through it.

I genuinely love BSG. even when things got wobbly after Season 2 and the ending was dubious. It never lost me. It looked great, the cast were perfect and I can re-watch it endlessly.

The pilot and first couple of seasons are great, then it becomes somewhat tedious (it's an Iraq War analogy, yes, we get it), then the end is so shockingly bad my overall recommendation tips towards not watching the whole thing. The ending is a pretty good test of whether someone will mindlessly swallow/defend any old shit in popular media, considering Moore came out and said he had no idea what he was doing. At least I laughed really hard at Dean Stockwell's fate.

The score is dragged down by Season 4. But the first three seasons are some of the best science fiction ever produced for TV, with easily the best production value ever for a space-based series. The story arc is totally engrossing, and the intensity of some episodes is incredible.

Would have been a 95 after 1st 2 seasons but it's lack of direction, mystifying plot changes et al lowered this score

A few good bits early on, but quickly degrades into a soap opera. Hard to care about the characters.

Best sci-fi TV series ever, mixing at the perfection all the elements of the genre: space battles, the survey in the space, long travels toward the unknown, machine vs humans, sociology, political science, and... God. Frak, i can't ask more.

Not a fan of the convoluted pseudo religious story arcs but the majority of the story is solid.

It doesn't finish as well as it starts but the highs hugely outweigh the less good. The VFX is astounding.

I respect it as I do many sci-fi but it's just tough to get through and the Mormon inspired plot points are a bit much for me.

The first 2.5 seasons are incredible. The rest of a show is a joke except for the Epilogue, which was good.

It starts out really good, continuing on from the excellent miniseries. It's grounded, gritty, interesting and got good characters with a semi-interesting story. And then the show goes downhill very quickly in the first season with a heavy religious theme that doubles down and gets worse the more the show goes on. Things start to not make much sense either in all aspects. Religion, plot, characters, character motivations, logic of technology, enemy motivations or lore. It just falls apart.

Setting the overtly masculinised Starbucks and overtly boring Apollo aside this is real science fiction dealing with many issues such as post-terrestrial humanity, science, politics, religion and sociology.

I never understood what was the fuss about it back then, I tried to watch it with more "mature" eyes, I still don't understand it. The story is weak, the acting is awful, the setting is untenable and the action is nothing to write home about. I just couldn't find any redeeming quality in it. Semi-naked, out-of-context strolls of Helfer had made an impression on me back then, but not anymore. It only helps me understanding Sackhoff cameos in Big Bang Theory, was it worth watching 10h of trash? No.

Binged through the whole thing in a few weeks and I must say the hate the final season gets baffles me. If you're going to deal with war and religion on a TV show you could hardly do better than this. 98999.

Bold and dynamic storytelling that uses a fun cheesy scifi setup as a perfect excuse to go full on crazy with interesting ideas that range from ethics and religion to politics and existentialism to melodrama and mythology and everything in-between. Even though many of its core elements start to majorly fall apart as the story rushes along it remains mostly very engaging and entertaining due to some rock solid core performances, audacious writing and a pulpy but personal aesthetic.

The writers set up mysteries they couldn't resolve in a satisfying way, so they went the route of giant cliche cop-out ending. It would have been better to just end the series an hour earlier than it did and not try to explain anything.
