Kinda-sorta entertaining, but also repetitive and patience-testing. We all know where this is going, and it's taking way too long to get there. At least a couple times per season, I find myself yelling at the screen: "Just kill your mom already!" EDIT: And then, after four seasons of buildup, they completely change the events of Psycho, the only reason we were interested in this show in the first place. Boooooo.

Really good atmosphere and performances, but it often languishes in slow fairly boring story lines.

I put off watching this for a long time I wasn't sure how I felt about Norman having a brother and his mother being very much alive and I'm not normally into movies being turned into tv shows But this pleasantly surprised me it's done very well

Has its good moments -also a lot of really bad ones-, and it seems to be getting better as it progresses. Highmore and Farmiga carry it almost entirely. Of note: The score seems to be slowly building up to the famous Herrmann theme.

Flawed but ultimately enjoyable. Bates Motel begins with a lot of promise and wonderfully weird plot lines. Although the quality dipped towards the end, it wasn't enough to spoil the adventure. The performances of Vera Farmiga and Freddie Highmore make it far worth all five seasons.

This is supposed to be inspired by Psycho, but mostly it felt like they were borrowing heavily from Twin Peaks, with it's small town with a rotten underbelly. The good bits were all buried under too many subplots. My biggest problem was that Norma and Norman are supposed to love each other, but most of the time, they didn't even seem to like each other. And neither did I; they were manipulative, petty and worst of all, whiny. Watch first and fifth season and you won't miss much.

It is a decent trial and Vera Farmiga excels as Norma, but it does not really deliver a punch and it is hard to see where they can go with it, so I stopped after the first season; decent work though. If you have a bonkers character crucial for your story try to recruit Farmiga; that was my take-home message.

For a TV show to take on such an iconic plot and not make it a mockery by using shocking darkness like another horror show I won't mention was pure talented writing and acting. The dialogue was always spot on believable. It will be missed. PS. Liked some of that "other" show but it just got too hard to take.

Slick but somewhat unnecessary. Vera Farming is great though.
