An adaptation of Bertold Brecht's first stage play written in 1918 at the age of 20 as his reaction to a drama by Hanns Johst on the life of the poet Grabbe. The late Rainer Werner Fassbinder plays both poet and anarchist Baal and himself, roaming through forests and along motorways, greedy for booze, cigarettes, women and men. But his genius and sexual morals only bring him death. (iksv.org)

Baal, the bones of "Naked" (1993). A cutthroat character study of an antihero consumed by the chaos of his totally romanticized world. A lyrical tragedy with unrelenting momentum.

An entirely underwhelming Brecht play wasting the talents of Schlöndorff and Fassbinder.
