One of the best kids' shows ever, period. The in-depth world-building, appealing characters, innovative action scenes, character-based humor, surprisingly mature themes, and amazing animation combine to create a show that appeals just as much to adults as to kids, maybe more so.

A refreshing blast of beautiful animation, terrific character development, kick-ass magic-filled action scenes, a rich and fascinating mythology that is revealed at a perfect pace throughout the series, and a story so satisfying and so well-told over 61 episodes that even big grown-up TV series should study and learn from it how to plan out a story bible in advance and pace that story out just right. Terrific. Why can't any other animated kids shows - I mean, like, a single one - be this good?

A Nickelodeon show with as much character development, world-building, intense action scenes, moral complexity, dramatic tension and emotional maturity to rival the best of HBO. Who woulda thunk? The show blew my expectations out of the water my first watch-through and continues to impress on subsequent viewings. Not just the best kid's show I've ever seen, but one of the best dramas, period.

Surprisingly well-written cartoon. Obviously takes cues from Japanese anime, but does well enough to stand on its own merits. One gripe I had would be the main character being kind of a wimpy idiot (which I guess is understandable considering his age) also some episodes were hit-and-miss, but that's about it.

A strong contender for the best Western animated program ever (at least in the action-adventure genre) due to its surprisingly in-depth themes and world-building; 'The Last Airbender' is a melting pot of tried and true fantasy tropes and Eastern culture, resulting in a show that appeals just as much to adult audiences as it does to children.

A very good show that initially failed to realize its audience, but makes up for it in latter seasons by striking a perfect balance of levity and depth. The perfect kind of show for young adults to bridge the gap to more mature material, and a pretty good show for adults in its own right, assuming they don't act like watching a cartoon makes them gay homos or something. REWATCH: This is superb.

A cartoon that depicts what is possible when their creators have genuine care for their craft. World building, animation, story, and characters are top tier.

S1 62. S2 67. S3 65. no argument for it being the best cartoon ever, it's too childish. i hope people mostly think they cuz they were young/nostalgia. zuko was immediately telegraphed but often done well, especially with his uncle. aang had too many moral dilemmas condensed into 1 episode of learning and a moral lmao. humor the most childish and meh. some dope martial arts/philosophy/lore but usually rushed or a bit too simple. S3 even had filler lol. ending romance and nuff other things rushed

Avatar: The Last Airbender is a series that takes its audience very seriously. The writing is genius and the voice acting is much the same. Creating a children's show with a beginning, middle and end to follow was a risky move. It's not always perfect, but when it gets something right, it is VERY right.

A wonderful kids show that is just as equally enjoyable for adults. This doesn't change the fact that it's a kids show and won't appeal to certain adults, but I enjoyed it a lot. One of the best things about this show is that it seemed to come in with a story to tell and knew when to end it. This helps the world building, the character development, the action, everything. I only wish more shows knew when to end things, even if they revisit that world later.

The visuals of the show are what originally hooked me, but the writing is what brought my love to an entirely different level. There are so many things that I know I missed on first watch, but that makes this show that much more special. The voice acting carried the emotional weight of the plot of someone setting out to save the world without ever getting too self-serious, which was just another added bonus. Katara (Mae Whitman) is one of my favorite characters in all of television.

Such depth of personality and world. Good storytelling always wins out, and this show is a must-see. If you ever thought Nickelodeon shows were junk this show will change your mind, and how.

Don't let the first few episodes fool you. This is a show with characters that grow and develop, a story that is equal parts smart and sweet, and action and adventure for all.

Really good. Better than most shows for children I've seen, the character arcs are sooooo good. Except I don't really like the way the ending ignored the moral dillema by just "magic power"ing through it.

the story is usually boring. usually deals with the adventure part of the story. some characters stay in the background.(toph) Although the characters are boring at first, they evolve and change over time (zuko, katara, partially aang)

Avatar is obviously fantastic in worldbuilding, characters, etc. Everyone raves about Zuko, but there is a damn good reason for that. Zuko is just that good. But, as an adult, Avatar falls short for me in a few spots. In a show that tackles colonialism and imperialism, there are moments that feel very childish for me. Most of these childish moments take place in season 1. I love wackiness and absurdity, but sometimes Avatar undercuts tense moments with childish humor. Great kids show.

Perfect. Impossible to overstate how artfully made this show is. A beautiful, perhaps one of the best, demonstration of the futility of war. Zuko's character arc is arguably the best antihero arc in television, strengthened by the amazingly well-written, multilayered characters that surround him. The concept of bending works great on paper, and even better on the screen. The absolute standard of taking an idea and expanding it in creative ways. THE quintessential show for children. LOW 9

1st Season: 70, 2nd-3rd Seasons: 80; 1st season was kind of a dissapointment, though I still enjoyed it, it seemed a bit too childish in the way it solved things sometimes. Fortunately some master agebender made things better in 2nd and 3rd, reaching a balance between smart storytelling but not too complex or slow paced that could be too much for younger audiences. What I mean is, if you at least sort of liked the first act, keep going. The best is yet to come.

Preachy life lessons, many of them quite terrible, coupled with the worst tropes of American cartoon storytelling (morally-good decisions lead to magically convenient solutions to real-world problems). The fact that the writers are talented actually makes it worse, because the average viewer (especially younger ones) might make the mistake of trying to learn something from this story. The admiration this show gets truly breaks my heart.

I watched the movie first, and I'm glad I did. TLA is a great kids' cartoon that holds some appeal for adults. Over its 3 seasons, the show maintains a good focus on its endgame, while switching the main antagonist each season to keep it fresh. Iroh was the most likeable character, but Zuko's arc, in it's intensity and setup, was what had me hooked. There's lots of filler and slapstick comedy, but they keep a good balance for the pace at which the plot unfolds. Good characters & storytelling.

Easily the best kids television show ever. Avatar: The Last Air Bender is a masterclass in chacter development, story telling, action, and humor. This is everything a network television show could hope for in fun and accessibility, and reaches the heights of technical performance the best HBO shows do. I can thank this series for sparking my interest in film/tv as a child.

Despite giving Avatar: The Last Airbender a high score of 95 (that isn't too hard to get from me), it isn't my favourite Nickoleadeon show. I guess that's sorta because while its characters are interesting, has interesting themes, looks good, I expected to be a little more excited and tear up at some point. Fortunately the show is awesome to watch and I see why there are some die-hard fans of it.
