Armored Troopers Votoms

The best mecha show I've ever watched, Votoms incorporates numerous ideas and somehow makes them work. Chirico stands out as a protagonist as he's a stoic character done right - he isn't devoid of personality and is written with more complexity than the typical stoic hero. The mecha's are also really low tech and don't have any special snowflake powers that most mechas have, meaning that Chirico beats his adversaries by his own wit. It's not always exciting to watch, but it is worth watching.

Votoms feels like a writer trying to use every neat idea and influence they have and shove it into one thing, and it's remarkable how well it all goes together. The comedy characters feel a bit shoehorned in at times, but the seriousness of the totality and the quality of film making makes up for any flaws.
