A seemingly harmless Dan-Brown-esque-Twightight romp with very disturbing wife-beating undercurrents. Enlightened feminist drama this is not (Season 1& 2)

Very cheesy romance with awkward chemistry between the main characters, set in a somewhat supernatural modern world. However, it has a way to draw you in, despite its many flaws. I think it is my guilty pleasure, and it can very well be yours.

This is such teenage girl crap. Way too much romance and not enough sex, nudity or gore.

A Discovery of Witches is dark academia that indulges in witches, vampires & demons; in history; in romance; and in clichés. Goode is good and Palmer is decent if a bit stilted, but the dialogue is often frustrating. The plot follows the pattern of Matthew being overprotective, Diana gets rebellious, gets in trouble and gets a new ability, just in time for Matthew to arrive, admonish and then compliment her. It's silly, but not utterly unengaging. Guilty pleasure is the most apt descriptor.

Seems to be a show exclusively for fans of the book. One critic said the main draw is "sexy, sexy, sex!" No thanks.
